Description |
Ethylmagnesium chloride is an organometallic compound with a chemical structure that contains an ethyl group (C2H5) bonded to magnesium (Mg) and chlorine (Cl). It is characterized by a boiling point of 150.8 °F (66 °C). Ethylmagnesium chloride is a versatile reagent, catalyst, and precursor material that finds applications in various fields, including thin film deposition, industrial chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and LED manufacturing. |
Uses |
Ethylmagnesium chloride is used in thin film deposition processes, which are essential in the manufacturing of electronic and optical devices, including semiconductors and solar cells. It plays a role in industrial chemical processes, potentially serving as a reagent or catalyst for various chemical reactions in industrial settings. In the LED (Light Emitting Diode) industry, ethylmagnesium chloride may contribute to the production of materials used in LED manufacturing. |
Hazard |

In this work, we studied the stability of common metallic electrodes aluminum, copper, and austenitic stainless steel for reversible magnesium deposition/dissolution in tetrahydrofuran using ethylmagnesium chloride and aluminum chloride.
The zirconocene-catalyzed sequential ethylcarboxylation of alkenes using ethylmagnesium chloride and carbon dioxide has been developed. A range of alkenes were transformed into the corresponding carboxylic acids in high yields.
